It’s one of Cape Town’s biggest conference events, and it draws speakers and delegates from around the world – we love the Design Indaba.
“A Better World Through Creativity” – is its slogan.
The Design Indaba has become an annual pilgrimage for many in the creative world, and one of the reasons is because it’s about more than just beauty in design. It’s also about intelligent solutions for a sustainable future and a better world.
Over the years, the Indaba has featured many award-winning ideas that blend clever creative thinking and conservation, sustainability and planet friendly techniques and materials – and that’s why we love it.
On the Design Indaba website, here’s one example of this clever thinking.
A Better World
Through Creativity.
Students in California have designed a solar-powered home that’s water-saving and energy efficient, as a clever response to water shortages.
The conference speakers are just as inspiring, and on the website, you can access videos of past speakers. Watch this fascinating presentation by Christian Benimana, a Rwandan architect. He’s a “passionate advocate for the MASS Lo-Fab movement, which encourages architects to hire locally, source materials regionally, train and upskill wherever they can, and invest in dignity.”
The Design Indaba 2018 conference took place in Cape Town on 21 – 24 Feb at the Artscape Theatre Centre.
