Life in the kitchen

Tomatoes, tomatoes, everywhere. Now's the time.

If you’ve been growing tomatoes in your yard (tip for next summer: we suggest everyone does), you’ll notice by now that the tomato bushes are crawling into every nook, cranny and garden wall crevice.

Soon you’ll be picking them.

But what to do, when you have a basketfull of ripe, red own-grown deliciousness waiting to be eaten – all at once?

Here are three of our favourite ideas:

Gazpacho soup.
Perfect for hot days.

Remember three things: Caprese. Gazpacho. Arrabiata.

Classic Caprese salad.
Literally ‘the salad from Capri’, is slices of mozzarella, tomato and basil, drizzled with olive oil.

Arrabiata sauce for pasta or meatballs.
That’s tomato, onion, chillies and olive oil. It doesn’t get much simpler. Make lots of it and freeze it.
